Congratulations Marlen!

3.5 years ago she began her small upcycling factory and found her calling! Marlen says,
"it makes me incredibly happy to let off steam with colours, textures, decoupage
and much more on vintage furniture. I prefer to work with chalk paints, but there is also furniture on which everything comes together, oil pastels,
acrylic and much more😃

Cityscape
Handpainted cityscape painted on to a fairly non descript but cute little cabinet. All the paints are from the Annie Sloan Chalk Paint wheelhouse - we LOVE the Annie Sloan colours. The front artwork has been finished with Unique Options Gloss top coat and the frame, painted in Annie Sloan Athenian Black, has been finished with Annie Sloan black wax.
Flying Birds
Our beautiful Flying Birds Mint decoupage paper adds a super moody element to this outlandishly ornate bed. The paintwork and paper bring some subtlety that this bed needs. The bed has been painted in Annie Sloan Honfleur (one of our favourite colours) and Graphite, and is blended to perfection. It has touches of bright and warm gilding wax and has been finished with dark and black wax.
Girl On A Swing
Seaside dreamings about rushing water, warm Summer nights and a carefree life. This piece was lovingly created using a watered down mix of Versante Eggshell paints in Bright White, Byzantine, Green Tea, Plum and Opal to get the gorgeous movement in the water.
Green Top Ladies
Well hello ladies! These super cool retro bedside tables simply had to get Minted! We've used a creative clash of incredible Autentico Versante Eggshell Paints in Plum, Inca Rose, Narang, Green Tea and Nocturnal to produce a very fresh and fun feel to our Lady In A Green Top decoupage paper on each bedside table.
Venice
This stunning Secretaire takes us to The Grand Canal in Venice during 1840 when Joseph Mallord William Turner created this timeless painting! We have used Wood U Bend mouldings to add some pizazz to the fold out desk and the front legs and painted it lovingly in Autentico Vintage Chalk Based Paints - Oxblood, Vert Anglais, Poetic, Milk & Graphite. We have also used Autentico Gold Rust Powder, Sea Salt Fizz, Clear & Dark Wax and finished with Unique Options Patina, Glaze Medium and Gold Rush Metallic Paint!
19th Amendment
Our client’s postcards which held great significance, were photographed and digitally enhanced to form a single image for printing. Painted black with Annie Sloan Athenian Black Chalk Paint® to create a simple backdrop allowing the image to become the hero. The image was decoupaged and finished with an oil-based lacquer for maximum impact.
The Storm
French antique. Carvings on the fascia are The Storm by Pierre-Auguste Cot a famous French Painter. The painting depicts a man and woman escaping a storm, so bringing this story to life was what was most important in this piece. Equally as important was showcasing the beautiful timber which I refurbished to ensure it framed the carvings. Painted in Annie Sloan French Linen Chalk Paint® the details have been highlighted with a Annie Sloan Graphite wash and a dry brush back over with French Linen and Old White.

Young Girl Reading
The very first piece from which the Mint by Michelle Decoupage Range was born! I created the authentic aged look by using moulds to create the frame for the image around the piece and on the legs. A lot of gold, Annie Sloan’s Honfleur, Arles and Tilton chalk paints were placed under the image to help give it an aged look.
The Wave
Designed for a client with a penchant for Japanese art, Hokusai’s unmistakable ‘Great Wave Off Kanagawa print was decoupaged on to the front of this cute chest of drawers. Our first commission piece for a teenager, we ensured the remainder of the piece was kept simple with simple white cigar legs a navy body and modern white hardware.
Mother & Child
Painted in Annie Sloan Chalk Paints® Graphite, Honfleur and Burgundy plus a custom mix of numerous other Annie colours. The front has been decoupaged with the Mint by Michelle ‘Mother and Child’ decoupage paper and completed using an oil-based finish. I’ve added a lot of gold gilding and texture, blending and stencilling to bring this piece together. If you’re interested in some of the techniques used, visit our ‘tips & techniques’ page for more information.
Renaissance Flowers
This timeless piece has been painted in Annie Sloan Athenian Black Chalk Paint® and enhanced with our exclusive Mint by Michelle Renaissance Flowers decoupage paper. The lovely timber legs and rim around the top have been finished in shellac.
Capri Pink Seat
This gorgeous seat has taken its inspiration from David Bowie and Elton John and seems the perfect mix of glamor and cool.
Painted in Annie Sloan Capri Pink and Florence and the frame done entirely with Annie Sloan brass metal leaf. And isn't she a show stopper!
Watch the video in tips and techniques about how to paint your fabric.
Happy Bouquet
A piece created during the 2020 lockdown period, it was created to bring light, love, fun and frivolity to an unknown future. I needed to occupy myself with something that conveyed cheer. The body has been painted in Annie Sloan Firle Chalk Paint® (my favourite Annie colour by the way!) and the flowers are all hand painted in every single Annie Sloan chalk paint colour in the range! And it makes me happy!
Hoodlum Punk
Another from my vintage stereo series. This punk rock stereo echo’s the anarchic attitude of the punk rock never mind the bollocks, sex pistols generation. Just like Johnny Rotten, I’m all for a ‘fuck the establishment attitude too! Painted in Annie Sloan Napoleonic Blue, Original and Emperor Silk.
Swans
A recent piece using the Mint By Michelle Swans Decoupage Paper. A piece that will inspire whimsy and serenity wherever it's situated. The colour scheme was a blend of White chalk paints and Old Violet on the legs. Stunning on the inside with Barcelona Orange.
Afterglow
This piece was spray painted in Annie Sloan Athenian Black Chalk Paint® to give it a clean and flat appearance. The flowers were applied with Annie Sloan Image Medium using a decoupage technique and created by using various coloured tissue papers applied to the surface. The different coloured tissues are applied thoughtfully to create a 3D effect giving depth and tone to the flowers.

Blossom
Painted in an ombre style starting lighter at the top and finishing darker at the base. The colours are Annie Sloan Provence Chalk Paint® at the top and and graduated to mix of Aubusson Blue and Pure colour paints. The stencil is a singular stencilled flower painted in Annie Sloan Pure Chalk Paint using a stencil brush and repeated across the piece. I have created the feeling of depth by applying the paints powder very softly to harder application for more pronounced flowers.
Lips
Rock & Roll people. This stereo is one of my favourite pieces! It embodies all things I feel about ROCK … attitude, sex appeal and angst. It’s painted in Annie Sloan Athenian Black, Pure White and Emperor Silk Chalk Paints®. The image is a black and white custom print with the ‘pop’ set of lips painted in Annie Sloan Emperor Silk.
Contour Retro
This retro set of MCM drawers was the perfect piece to apply a pattern of different and odd shaped pieces of colour to the front and leaving the blonde timber to the frame and legs to offset. I’ve used a range of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint® blues and greens – some mixed with white to tone down the shade. The colours have been graduated from dark to light from top to bottom and tied together with one singular Pure White chalk paint shape near the centre.

A Pastoral Visit
Using the Mint decoupage paper "A Pastoral Visit" and painted in Annie Sloan Chalk Paint.
A Pastoral Visit, the most celebrated of Richard Norris Brooke's genre scenes, or views of everyday life, depicts a family welcoming their elderly pastor to Sunday dinner. A frequent occurrence in both black and white parishes that could not afford parsonages.
Brooke was one of many artists to depict African American life in the 1870's and 1880's, inspired by the dramatic social change during Reconstruction, when blacks achieved citizenship, voting rights. and protection under the US Constitution.
Italian Inspired Cabinet
This stunning cabinet has been recreated from a brown and very non descript piece to resemble a stunning antique Italian cabinet - think old Tuscan Villa.
I refurbished this piece using Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Aubusson Blue, Primer Red, Versailles and various other colours for details. The floral details are from the A1 transfer "fanciful garden" and the adorable cherub is a WoodUbend piece.
Spring has sprung!
Mint decoupage paper, "Karen's technicolour bouquet" is an original painting by Michelle, owner of Mint by Michelle. It has since been miraculously transformed into a decoupage paper so that everybody can make furniture that looks this good!
Aside from the decoupage paper itself this piece has been painted with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint using Capri Pink, English Yellow, Florence and many more
Beautiful Poppies
Who doesn't love poppies?
This piece has been transformed using lots of beautiful Annie Sloan Chalk Paint and our wonderful A1 transfer, "poppies" - an absolute firm favourite with our customers.
You can see the how to transformation of this piece on our Facebook page.
